Clinical Neuropsychologist and Psychologist

Dr. Joan Naini specializes in  individualized neuropsychological assessments and interventions tailored to the individual’s needs, working with children, adolescents, andadults with various learning differences  (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, other neurological, developmental, and genetic disorders). Dr. Naini is the former Director of Psychological Assessment at the  Mailman Center for Child Development, University of Miami School of Medicine and professor in Departments of Neurology  and  Pediatrics  at UM. She has over 30 years of experience as an ESE teacher, clinical psychologist, and neuropsychologist.Dr. Naini earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education at  Temple University and worked as an ESE teacher and supervisor prior to completing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at  University of Tennessee . Dr. Naini completed her internship at the Department of Pediatric Psychology at the Mailman Center and was subsequently awarded a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Developmental Neuropsychology by the Department of Neurology at UM.

Assessment specializations include:

  • Learning Disorders including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and dyspraxia
  • Attention Disorders
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders – testing with ADOS-2 and ADI-R
  • Traumatic Brain Injury – ImPACT and complete neuropsychological
  • Other neurological disorders including epilepsy, tic disorders, strokes, cerebral palsy, etc.
  • Extended time on high stakes tests (SAT, ACT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, USMLE, Bar Exam, etc.)
  • Emotional issues – anxiety, depression, etc.
  • Complex and difficult to diagnose learning issues

Due to Dr. Naini’s extensive background in education, clinical psychology, and neuropsychology she is able to work with a wide range of issues, providing services that span from gifted testing to assessments/interventions for severe neurological disorders. She offers a highly personalized approach tailored to each individual’s needs in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Dr. Naini is also available for school consultations, talks, and psychotherapy, specializing in children/young adults with ADHD, anxiety, depression, medical issues, adjustment problems, family issues, and autistic spectrum disorders.
